WHY BARKLEY REJECTS CHELSEA: JOEY BARTON
The Blues almost got
Ross Barkley on the deadline day after Everton accepted Chelsea’s £35M for the
England Midfielder. It was reported that the player was already at the Cobham
Headquarters of Chelsea in the middle of his medicals when he stormed out and
called off the deal. This obviously made Chelsea have no choice but to quickly
opt for Danny Drinkwater.
There have been various
fingers pointed at the Chelsea’s Technical Director Michael Emenalo and
Director Marina Granovskaia as the ones to blame for the unexpected break down
as they are directly involved in player transactions.
However, Joey Barton
while speaking with TalkSport claimed manager Antonio Conte is to blame for the
failure to secure the player. Barton said
“I heard a really interesting thing
about what happened with the Ross Barkley transfer. Conte turned his phone off
and Barkley’s representatives were trying to contact him”
Barton felt, the player
wanted talking to the manager to know what his role in the team would be and
whether he was needed in the team in the first instance but Mr. Conte was not
available. The player developed cold feet and pulled the plug.
Could it be that Conte
did not want Barkley, or the player and his representatives misinterpreted the
situation?
Reintegrating Barkley
into the Everton team pending the next window will not be difficult for Ronald
Koeman since the whole transfer saga did not have much drama like other failed
ones.
